DESCRIPTION:
APW - Hamilton, Grade 940 with scarce two-tone damascene, 21J, 18S, gold-filled OF swingout recase with attractive engine turning and engraving detail to rear, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#276993. A beautiful example of this scarce movement, this particular serial number is listed in the Hamilton ledger as having been sold on August 10th, 1903 to the Non-Retailing Co. of Lancaster, PA and is from a group of 100 consecutive serial numbers (276901 to 277000) that were purchased by this firm between July and September of 1903.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, superb two-tone color, few micro-fine scratches to barrel bridge around arbor, minor bits of oxide to regulator assembly; dial with two fine surface scratches to outer chapter between 2 and 4, minuscule pinpoint nick to upper edge of seconds-register, edge flake under bezel near 1; fine-plus hands; case shows light to medium wear, some scratches to pendant, scattered dings and dents along rear shoulder and edge, reduced engine turning and engraving detail with areas of loss to rear perimeter and full loss of engine turning to majority of bezel, few tiny subtle strips of wear to brass to pendant; tight brass replacement bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
